How to get from Casablanca to Dakhla

Dakhla, located in the far south of Morocco, is more than 1,500 kilometres from Casablanca.

By plane

The plane is undoubtedly the most efficient way to reach Dakhla from Casablanca. Direct flights operated by Royal Air Maroc cover this distance in approximately 4 hours, transforming a journey that would otherwise take more than a day into a comfortable and fast trip.

Departures are from Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport, a modern facility offering all the necessary services for travellers. Upon arrival, Dakhla Airport, although more modest, ensures a smooth transition to your final destination.

Prices vary considerably depending on the season and booking period, generally ranging from 100 to 350 € (1 200 to 3 600 MAD). This significant variation makes it worthwhile to book in advance to get the best rates, especially during peak tourist seasons.

Flying has the undeniable advantage of saving time and offering comfort, allowing you to make the most of your stay in Dakhla. However, the higher cost compared to other transport options may be a limiting factor for some travellers.

By bus

The bus is the most affordable alternative for this journey, with a fare of approximately 50 € (600 MAD). This democratic option allows a wide range of travellers to access Dakhla without major budget constraints.

The most recommended company for the journey between Casablanca and Dakhla is CTM.

Departures are organised from the central bus station on Avenue des FAR in Casablanca. The journey takes approximately 25 hours (with several stops in southern Moroccan cities), requiring appropriate physical and mental preparation for this long crossing.

The main advantage of travelling by bus is that it is affordable and allows you to discover Morocco’s diverse landscapes during the journey. However, the accumulated fatigue and long journey time are significant drawbacks to consider.

By car

Travelling by car offers unrivalled flexibility for exploring the Casablanca-Dakhla route. This option allows you to tailor the itinerary to your preferences, make spontaneous stops and discover remarkable sites along the way.

The distance of approximately 1 500 kilometres requires around 18 hours of actual driving, not including essential breaks for rest and meals. This estimate assumes favourable road conditions and continuous driving, which is unrealistic in practice.

The associated costs include fuel, estimated at between 180 and 200 (2 000 to 2 200 MAD), any tolls and vehicle wear and tear. This estimate varies depending on the type of vehicle, fuel prices and driving habits.

Long-distance driving requires adequate preparation, including a technical check of the vehicle, supplies of water and food, and planning of rest stops. Weather conditions can vary significantly between departure and arrival, requiring appropriate clothing.

Combined solutions: Train and bus

This multimodal approach optimises certain segments of the journey while remaining affordable. The classic itinerary combines the train from Casablanca to Marrakech, then the bus from Marrakech to Agadir, and finally the bus from Agadir to Dakhla.

This option has the advantage of dividing the journey into manageable stages, allowing you to discover several important Moroccan cities. For the entire journey on a single ticket, you will pay:

  • Between Casablanca and Marrakech by train (2nd class): Approximately 13 € (160 MAD)
  • Between Marrakech and Agadir by bus: Approximately 11 € (130 MAD)
  • Between Agadir and Dakhla by bus: Approximately 50 € (525 MAD)

For a total cost of approximately 80 € (815 MAD).

The total duration often exceeds 25 hours due to connections and waiting times between different modes of transport. This approach is particularly suitable for travellers who have time and wish to explore several destinations in a single trip.

The main disadvantage is the logistical complexity, requiring precise coordination of schedules and rigorous management of connections. Potential delays can disrupt the entire planned itinerary.
